Transgender Healthcare in Arizona

Gender-affirming care in Arizona remains legal for adults, but access can vary depending on clinician availability, insurance coverage, and local healthcare systems. Transgender Arizonans may experience longer wait times at local clinics, or difficulty finding trans-competent providers, especially for those living outside major urban areas. In 2022, Arizona passed a law banning gender-affirming surgeries for individuals under 18. These restrictions do not apply to adults.

With Plume Clinic, eligible patients in Arizona can meet with licensed clinicians online to receive gender-affirming care prescriptions and gender transition support without traveling to in-person appointments.

To update your name and gender on an Arizona ID, you must first change your name with the Social Security Administration. Then, you must submit the following to the MVD:

  2. A signed statement from a licensed clinician attesting that you are irrevocably committed to the gender-change process.

The clinician’s statement must include their license number and be presented within three months of the date it was signed. You must also update your name on your ID within 10 days of receiving your legal name change.
