This gender exploration writing workshop will cover tips for trans* people on how to create a supportive reflective writing practice that you can utilize no matter where you’re at in your transition. We will spend time in discussion with each other and responding to a short writing prompt, with writing prompts at the end that you can use for the rest of the months. This workshop is led by transmasc writer and educator, Sage Mitchell (he/they) from Songs of Ourselves.
Sage Mitchell (he/they) is a queer, trans-masculine writer and educator living in Michigan. He teaches English to emerging artists at Interlochen Arts Academy. Sage started Songs of Ourselves June of 2020 as a response to the isolation felt by many during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Songs of Ourselves has reached hundreds of people across the globe, in the form of workshops and zines. Personally, Sage has been using writing as a reflective tool since elementary school and particularly enjoys journaling and poetry.
Bornstein starts from the premise that there are not just two genders performed in today’s world, but countless genders lumped under the two-gender framework. Using a unique, deceptively simple and always entertaining workbook format, Bornstein gently but firmly guides you to discover your own unique gender identity.
